Canada in Iraq: RCAF Strikes 3 ISIS Positions Near Kirkurk and Mosul

As the coalition air campaign amps up its attacks on ISIS position in the wake of the Paris attacks last Friday, the RCAF is continuing to play its part.

Under the watchful eye of a new commander, Brigadier General Irving, on 18 November 2015, while taking part in coalition airstrikes in support of Iraqi security forces offensive operations, two CF-18 Hornets successfully struck three separate ISIS fighting positions, one south of Kirkuk and two others northwest of Mosul, using precision guided munitions.

The RCAF broke news of these recent strikes around the same time that French Officials confirmed the death of  Abdelhamid Abaaoud, the suspected mastermind of the Paris attacks. French officials confirmed that he died in the violet shootout between police and ISIS extremists in Saint-Denis on Tuesday.

With the RCAF airstrike numbers slowing down; especially during the 2015 Election - the RCAF have launched 3 strikes in the first 5 days of October.

On 4 October 2015, while taking part in coalition operations in support of Iraqi security forces, two CF-18 Hornets successfully struck an ISIS fighting position west of Sinjar using precision guided munitions.

On 3 October 2015, while taking part in coalition operations in support of Iraqi security forces, two CF-18 Hornets successfully struck an ISIS fighting position west of Kirkuk using precision guided munitions.

On 2 October 2015, while taking part in coalition operations in support of Iraqi security forces, two CF-18 Hornets successfully struck two ISIS fighting positions in the vicinity of Sinjar using precision guided munitions.

Here are the August 2015 airstrikes undertaken by RCAF CF-18s in Iraq. No strikes in Syria.

RCAF July 2015 Airstrike Update

An Update on the RCAF's Airstrikes against ISIS for July 2015. All in Iraq, with one in Syria.

On July 2, 2015 - RCAF CF-18s struck three ISIS fighting positions; one Northwest of Tal Afar; one Northeast of Tal Afar; and one in the vicinity of Sinjar.

On July 3, 2015- RCAF CF-18s struck three ISIS fighting positions; one in the vicinity of Sinjar; one Southeast of Mosul; and one Northwest of Mosul.

On July 4, 2015 - RCAF CF-18s targeted an ISIS fighting position Southeast of Fallujah.

On July 5, 2015 - RCAF CF-18s targeted an ISIS fighting position Southeast of Fallujah.
