The CAF will participate in the US led Exercise TRADEWIND 15 in the Caribbean. The exercise will run from May 31 to June 24, 2015. The CAF will deploy marine and land assets to the exercise that will include 19 other nations. TRADEWING will mix air, land and sea exercises according to DND.
TRADEWING is an annual US led exercise focused on countering transnational organized crime, and providing humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
The Royal Canadian Navy will deploy HMCS Glace Bay and her 40 crew members, with a diving team from the Fleet Diving Unit (Atlantic). The Glace Bay will focus on fire fighting, suspect vessel tracking and boarding procedures.
The Canadian Army will provide 34 personnel, from the 2nd RCR based out of Gagetown, New Brunswick. They will co-lead the exercise with US personnel as well as provide training on how to set up and run a firing range. Additionally, 12 CAF members will participate in jungle warfare training, which is being led by the Belize Defence Force.

Canada in Syria: US Pushed for Canadian Support
Jason Kenney, Minister of Defence revealed on Wednesday this week that the US has been pushing for Canada to join its forces in deploying air strikes in Syria - mainly because of the RCAF's guided munitions.
The United States has made it very clear that Canada's precision-guided munitions, and expertise would be welcomes in Syria. This is because the several Arab allied nations who are also bombing in Syria do not have access to the guided munitions, or are unwilling to deploy them to this region.
The Minister of Defence did not say if the US actually asked Canada to join the US in Syria, but the option was left open. The US made it clear that they respect Canadian sovereignty and will respect whatever decision the government makes, while saying the RCAF would be a welcome addition to the air war against ISIS in Syria.
The precision-guided munitions the CF-18s are using are all completely US made and sold - and many other NATO allies (including France, Britain and Australia) also use them. NATO last year complained that they did not have enough available. Canada is the first Western ally to join the US-led air war in Syria.
The motion is expected to pass the parliamentary vote with the Conservative majority in the House of Commons.

CAF to the Ukraine? New Minister Hints at possibility
The new Defence Minister Jason Kenney hinted late Wednesday that Canada is considering joining the United States in training the Ukrainian Military. Kenney also left the option open to extending Canada's mission against ISIS.
Kenney did not confirm anything, and nothing from DND has anything being official yet, but US forces are considering deploying to the Ukraine to help train the military on how to better defend themselves against Russian weaponry, including artillery and rockets.
The US mission would not begin until March of 2015, and by that point Canada's mission in Iraq is set to expire - but the Conservatives are likely to extend the mission, especially now that President Obama has asked congress for a limited ground war - and the wording he used is very similar to the mission Canadian Special Forces are doing right now.
So perhaps come March, Canadian Forces will be adding another training mission in the Ukraine to their list of deployments.
